Day 8: First/Third Person Shooter
Sometimes you just need an overly sad song to just vibe to. Poets of the Fall are a group that were just getting started in Finland and one of the script writers asked their lead singer to turn a poem that was going to be used in the game. Overall, the Max Payne series and Remedy as a whole make good use of songs as set pieces throughout their games. This one is particularly neat because it pops up in unexpected places: On a radio that you're walking past or being hummed by a night janitor. My main complaint about the song is the ending is basically one of those 80's affairs where they keep singing the chorus while the song fades out.

Music from a shooter: Metroid Prime Exoskeleton
This boss and its music were everything I wanted to see in a final battle. It's the giant gribbly I'd been reading about and it's going to take an arsenal earned over the entire game to put it down. The fight is a slugfest- there's no puzzle besides lasting long enough to wear down the behemoth. The music conveys that too; it's a mess of grinding metal and distinctly organic buzzing over a steady back-and-forth. My favorite part is that the fight moves with the music. Metroid Prime's legs shift constantly in time to the beat, the music matches its ungainly gait when it charges you, and Samus' own pursuit syncs up to the soundtrack when the beast flees. This song is the theme of a dance battle with a well-lit crab.

Day 8 - First or Third Person Shooter - Team Fortress 2 Robots Theme
I am so happy to have been in high school during the height of TF2, right as the Robots update came out, and hearing this just sent me back to friday evenings in my dorm while playing with my roommate on a server. I sometimes miss high school.

Day 9 - Song from a licensed game - Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order
First off, Mongolian throat singing in a Star Wars Game. Second, Please play Jedi Fallen Order, easily one of the best games since KOTOR in the Star Wars universe.

Day 9: Music from a Licensed Game
It's a bit odd to play All Star battle lately, since this came out just as the Anime adaptation was just starting. While Jotaro and Giorno have gone on to have some pretty solid bangers for their themes, All Star Battle had a solid soundtrack.
I'd normally go with Funny Valentine's track since it has a pretty sweet riff that sounds like a Funky cover of 'Another Brick in the Wall'. But I have to give the best track to the Best JoJo. Sorry Mr. President, them's the breaks.

Day 10: RPG Battle Music
Heyyyyyyy, Yasunori Mitsuda shows up again. Not content to help with the iconic Chrono Trigger soundtrack, he's been working with Monolithsoft for some time, and has a hand in most of the soundtracks for the Xeno series.
Xenoblade has one of the best soundtracks in the series, second maybe to Xenogears. The heavy metal riffs combined with passionate orchestrals is just a delight to hear and does a good job keeping you engaged in the battle system, which to be honest is a MMORPG inspired setup designed to be played single player.

Day 9- Music from a Licensed Game: Warhammer 40k Mechanicus- Overlord
The music in Mechanicus got me hooked immediately. The mix of electronic/gothic is fascinating. Humming leads into pipe organs. Then pipe organs give way to a feedback-like buzzing. Then the choir shows up.
It's everything that comes to mind when you imagine the machine cult, and I haven't heard anything else quite like it.

Oh hey, Yasunori Mitsuda composed my day 5 pick too! He made all the music for Graffiti Kingdom.

Day 10 - RPG Music - Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
What an absolutely stunning piece of combat music. The slavic singing with a Mandolin in the back gives the Butcher of Blaviken's albeit most compelling tale, and holy crap what a fantastic track when dealing with Leshens. Just. I can't even describe how much fun this track is to fight monsters to.
