Not much clever to say about this, it's just a perfect tone-setter for a game that kept on delivering. The energy in this song still gets me hyped up.

Day 2: opening level music
I'll be honest there is a disturbing lack of Mario in here. I booted this game up a few days ago and was blown away with Sky Station Galaxy's opening notes. I was originally planning on doing 3D world seeing as its a newer game with a really iconic saxophone track, but there's something really bombastic about this track that makes me think "Yeah, that is Mario music"

Day 3 - 8-Bit theme
So I am not really old enough to have grown up with the NES or any game that uses 8-bit effectively, so this is a lesser pick for me. HOWEVER. I really love this track not only for its meme potential but the remixes from the reboot of Ducktales and the remake of the NES game. Good track all around.

Day 3: 8 bit music
Time to break out the Nobuo. Final Fantasy 2 may be janky, grindy, and basically Star Wars in a fantasy setting, but it still has some things going for it. I could talk about all the staples that started here, but this is about the music.
FF1 had some memorable tunes for sure, but FF2 started to use the music less as background noise and tried using it to set the tone of its more ambitious story. The Rebel Theme is the rallying cry for the resistance to the empire. It is there as you join them, as you lose allies, and as you push back against the empire. FF3 had the best soundtrack of the NES era, but FF2 stumbled so 3 could soar.

Mega Man IV was one of my first games as a kid, and it holds a special place in my heart for the sheer amount of polish that went into it. The spritework is amazing, the stages are fun, and the soundtrack has this infectious energy. Charge Man's theme is awesome. Pharaoh Man's theme is awesome. The title theme- and its full-on Game Boy cutscene- is awesome. Napalm Man edges just ahead of the rest of the game for me. Something about this song hooks into the top of my cheeks and gets me smiling.

Day 4: Console exclusive
Wow this one is getting harder and harder to do. With so many games and franchises seeing PC or Mobile rereleases, it is getting harder and harder to find a true console exclusive.
for the time being, Dark Cloud 2/ Dark Chronicle is still playstation exclusive and the soundtrack is pretty solid. Some of the dungeon tracks are real snoozers but the starting theme is a good attention grabber
