Day 20- Music From a Racing Game: Diddy Kong Racing- Title Theme
This one is tricky. Racing games aren't in my wheelhouse. It took a while to dredge up Diddy Kong Racing. The title theme goes way harder than anything else in the game.

Day 21 - Music that makes you frustrated - Dragon Age: Origins - The Fade
All in all one of my favorite RPGs of all time that I played when I was much too young, however, ACTUALLY FUCK THE FADE LEVELS. It turns from a silly romp up a tower but to bloat the level and make it longer you have to traverse different areas of the fade with some shapeshifting you never see in the game again and it becomes a massive puzzle. Little pre-teen me struggled and only survived this area with a Konami Guide in hand (of which I still own and found on a recent clean up), just, fuck this area of the game and its why I struggle to replay it.

21
This one actually requires some explanation. At one point in SMT 4 you need to reach Ikebukuro via underground tunnel in an area of the map due south. Unfortunately, I managed to misinterpret the instructions and thought the tunnel was in the southern part OF Ikebukuro. The only tunnel close enough to that would send you to a spot on the map decidedly away from Ikebukuro and it would take me a good two weeks to realize I was looking in the wrong area for the tunnel the whole time. It's a shame since this song is excellent.

Day 21: Music you associate with Frustration
I adore rhythm games, great tunes and engaging gameplay. Rhythm heaven is one of the best in that regard. If you want a place to pick it up, the Megamix on the 3DS is fantastic.
HOWEVER
There are two things that drive me nuts about the game.
First, some songs, like Forklift must be unlocked with Rhythm Orbs, so and there are some damn good songs locked this way.
Second, if you want to 100% this game. Good fucking luck.
The Rhythm orbs are locked by either completing challenges or by doing a flawless run of a level. The challenges are doable...up to a point, then they eventually move to, "Do three flawless runs back to back." Then, the flawless runs are also doable, but for some they are only able to be done by someone who is a master of keeping time. I may be a band geek, but I wasn't the best and I was a total mess in marching band. If you're a casual player like me, just grab a cache of orbs, turn off autosave, and just buy a game and reset afterwards. Otherwise you'll try to do a flawless run of Forklift and almost give yourself a coronary.
Also, if anyone here has ever done a flawless run of Lockstep. You have my infinite respect.

Day 21- Music You Associate With Frustration: Octopath Traveler: A Settlement In Red Bluffs
Octopath is a rough time. The battles are too long, the grind is too random, the characters are too thin, the individual stories are too repetitive, and so on. It's got ambition, it looks and sounds great, and there are the slightest glimmers of what could have been in the character banters.
One of them has Therion the thief talking to Olberic the knight. Therion explains to Olberic that the party's going to stealing a treasure in this mission, whether that interferes with Olberic's honor or not. Olberic rebuffs him, looking forward to seeing Therion in action. End scene. I don't know if there's more to that, but I desperately want there to be. Even as a handwave to keep the party together, the potential to explore these characters is enormous. If there's a remake or a sequel or anything released starring this party in the future, keep an eye on it. There's some good stuff trapped in Octopath.

Day 22: Town/Village Music - Dungeon Siege 2 - Aman'lu (repaired)
What a quiet, wonderful track. I've always loved the multicultural elven town of Aman'lu and always found it to be one of the coolest concepts for a welcoming community for the protagonist to be from. Much of the second act of the game revolves around the town and beginning to suit up to begin to face the big bad, Valdis. The track is offset by rain and ruined buildings, and the sad yet hopeful strings of violin over cello really make this one of my favorite town themes.

Day 22: Town music
Bit of a busy week, so I didn't post my description right off the bat.
Simtown is one of those games from my childhood that I look back on and remember fondly, but fully knowing it was a really simplified kid's game.
There were only three songs in the game and this was the default one. It is an incessant earworm that is forever burned into my psyche, but it was fantastic to hear while playing during computer hour in elementary school.

Day 22- Town/Village Music: Chrono Trigger- Corridors of Time
This theme is wild. In-game, you go from a blizzard-wracked wasteland to a city above the clouds and this starts playing. You just stepped into a completely different world from anything you've seen so far; a dreamlike fusion of magic and technology populated entirely by idle intellectuals who worship the monster that kills the future. It's got a weird sound- as lazy as its inhabitants- to match the low-key wild stuff the city of Zeal starts throwing at you. You will solve book puzzles, fight six eggplants, be insulted by a cat, and endure all manner of poetry before Zeal springs its trap.

Day 23- Underrated Music: Mega Man X3- Crush Crawfish
Now, no one is going to argue that Mega Man X games have rad music. On the other hand, X3 had a samey sound font to all of its songs and that sound was a very particular guitar. Every track sounds the same. It's easy to lose track of which song is playing even when you're mid-stage. Hell, when I was going through a playlist to check out X3's tracks, Crush Crawfish kept ending and leading into Tunnel Rhino and I wouldn't notice for a solid ten seconds. I've had a remix of Crush Crawfish on my phone for five years because I keep forgetting it's there. Give this a listen to remind yourself Mega Man X3's soundtrack exists and then let it fade again.
