Check inventory. Maybe they forgot to take something? Or a gruff and mean but ultimately good natured guard slipped you a key before you got tossed in here, and is waiting for you to break out of your cell and break him out of his shell?
Or it could just be a piece of jerky. Ether way, worth it to check.
