"How's that going to help?" 

She's not sure how she can help that Math person anyways. Well, ok, she's thought of several ways you could help that Math person, but none of them seem relevant at the moment. Besides, it's only been a week and Midge is not about to get attached to any of these people. That's just asking for trouble.

"Welllll, they're sortin' through all the old supplies in the basement right now. You know, movin' boxes, gettin' things open. Me'n Cinnabar 've been helpin' them out and it's a real workout! That could keep your mind off things, right?"

There's so many things she wants to say to that. She decide against all of them. They sound mean when she thinks them over a second time and she knows her cousin's trying to help. Instead, she sighs and gives the back of her neck another few scratches. 

"Ok. Yeah, let's go help Math."

"Eeeeee, yes, ok!!! Come on! This way!"

Off Harlow goes, out of the bathroom and down into the basement. Midge follow after her, eyes open for anything out of place.




First assessment of the basement: Chaotic. Cluttered. One entrance point, no windows. Midge frowns and press a hand against the back of her neck. Nope, this place is awful. No escape points, too many hiding places for unwanted guests, and most of the basement's crates are stacked in piles that look unstable at best. Looks like Math's gotten Harlow and Cinnabar to get some of this nightmare organized, but the rest? Midge shudders. She reminds herself she's here to help, too. This is part of Harlow's plan and she's already made up her mind to give it her best shot. 

Maybe a quick mental exercise will calm her nerves. She exhales and pulls up the information she's gathered on Cinnabar and Math. It's not necessary, but making sure she knows who she's dealing with puts her at ease.

Cinnabar:

-One of the strongest people here

-Over half the people here think he's hot

-Probably used to be rich: starts talking like Nari and Ana when he's around them.

-In the army. Ugh.

-Dumb, but in an ok way.
-Has a crush on Hanish
-Basically a puppy

Math:
-Avoids basically everyone
-Trying to prove something
-Something about rocks???

On second thought, maybe she needs more information on Math. Before she can go any further with that line of thought, Harlow calls out.




Midge looks from Math back to Harlow. Maybe there's a slight chance that Harlow overstayed her welcome with the rock person. Maybe they should step in and say something to defuse the tension or get Harlow back on track. On the other hand, she could always ignore that and see if Cinnabar needs help.


What sounds like a good idea?

[Eversor]

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm We should focus here.

But defusing situations seems boring. How do we get Harlow back on track?

[tronntronn]

>Draw Math's attention to yourself by asking questions about her plan for organizing the basement. Why she's in charge of that anyway?

She's got nothing for how to handle this situation. Not a damn thing. Maybe talking to Math for a minute will get Harlow to leave them alone? Maybe???

"Hey, uh, Math."



Math turns their attention from Harlow over to Midge. They looked unimpressed and uninvolved as always. Midge steels herself and pushes forward with the line of thought. She supplements this by giving Harlow a physical push off in the direction of Cinnabar and the physical labor she mentioned earlier.

"How'd you get stuck dealin' with basement stuff?"

Math is quiet for a minute before they answer.

"All the supplies are down here. The base needs supplies to function. It's just practical." 

Midge nods her head in agreement, not sure if Math misunderstood the root of her question or if Math ignored it on purpose. Maybe it didn't matter, she thought as she stared up at the scientist. Not like Math spent time with anyone in the base. They were either bad at interacting with people or they weren't interested. 

She figures she can either try and press Math further or go lift some boxes.
